In order to identify and describe the coping styles present in 29 patients that made up the selected sample, according to intentionality criteria defined by the authors. The instruments Lazarus Coping Scale, an interview and an observation guide were applied. Results: most of the patients were married, with ages ranging between 45 and 72 years, with a predominance of the representation of the age groups between 51-55 and 66-70. A high number of patients presented coping focused on the problem. Conclusions: it was found that in those who had coping focused on the problem the support search subscale predominated; while in those where coping was focused on emotion, positive reassessment stood out.
