Abstract
Bu makalede benlik/kendilik kavramı, modern felsefenin en önemli filozofları referans alınarak irdelenmeye çalışılmaktadır. Benlik kavramı modern felsefede esas itibariyle iki yönüyle ele alınmıştır. Empiristler benliği daha çok bir nesne olarak ele alırken rasyonalistler benliğin özne yönünü öne çıkarmışlardır. Öte yandan Kant ise bu zıt kutup arasında orta bir yol izleyerek benliği her iki yönüyle ele almıştır. Tabii benlik kavramının ne olduğu onun bilgisinin nasıl bir bilgi olduğuyla yakından ilişkilidir. Rasyonalistler benlik bilgisinin diğer tüm bilgilerden daha kesin olduğunu öne sürerken empiristler bu iddiayı reddetmişlerdir, zira onlara göre benlik de diğer tüm varlıklar gibi bir nesnedir. Kant ise benliğin bilinen yönü ile bilen yönünü birbirinden ayırarak rasyonalistlerle empiristler arasında bir sentez yoluna gitmiştir.
