Abstract

The occurrence of dust, which, due to their physico-chemical properties can ignite and cause an explosion is widespread in the industry. Technological advances and the related development of explosion protection can significantly reduce the possibility of ignition of dust, but protection selection is largely dependent on the parameters of flammability of dust. Flammability dust include the ability to initiate the reaction under the influence of energy supplied from the outside, resulting in the combustion process. The research, which are the subject of this paper focuses on the determination of the parameters flammability; ignition temperature and dust layer. Knowledge of the flammability characteristics of dust is particularly important when building new plants, equipment selection and technical methods and organizational explosion hazards in existing installations such as the use of machinery and equipment in explosion-proof or determination of the hazard zone. Determination of the minimum ignition temperature of particulate matter [6] is carried out on a 5 mm layer of dust. For the ignition layer believed to initiate the propagation of flame or combustion oxygenation of the test dust. In contrast, determination of the minimum ignition temperature of the cloud of dust is carried out in an oven Godberta-Greenwald. The tests were subjected to dust coal and polyoxymethylene (POM) that have been downloaded from the Department of the Group Azoty Tarnow, while the tests were performed at the Laboratory in University of Labour Safety Management in Katowice and in laboratory Experimental Mine Barbara in Mikolow. The plant, from which the sample of respondents dust because of the large quantities of hazardous substances and the nature of production is counted among the plants at high risk of failure because of this it is necessary to carefully examine the substances present in it that could pose a danger.
