[b][i]Energy Security in Poland in the Context of Energy Security in the European Union[/i][/b]

Abstract
Energy security is a wide notion, which is rather difficult of define in an unambiguous way. However, from a geopolitical point of view, national energy security primarily means the secure access to vari-ous energy carriers (gas, oil, coal, nuclear energy), the guarantee of a continuous supply, as well as a well developed energy infrastructure. Thereby, energy security involves a number of factors of legal, political and economic factors. However, even though the gas, electric energy and petroleum sector have a common denominator (a diversification of the energy sources as well as a continuous supply and diversification of infrastructure, i.e. the modernization and development of infrastructure), the EU countries find themselves in diverse situations when it comes to their national energy security. This is the result of many factors, including the historical relations with the suppliers, various patterns of energy consumption, access to natural resources, import dependencies (including depending on one source), political activity, etc.With respect to the above, this article presents the legal, economic and political aspects of energy security in Poland regarding the sectors of electric energy and gas and in the context of energy secu-rity in the whole of the European Community.
