Bilateral bitruncular venous malformation of the thigh: Case report
Journal Title: International Journal of Anatomical Variations - Year 2018, Vol 11, Issue 2
Abstract
We present a case with bitruncular venous malformations of popliteal and femoral veins, bilaterally and we observed more than one connection which were described as femoral and popliteal connections in the gluteal region and lower extremity dissection of the formalin-fixed, 64-year-old male cadaver. On both sides, the small saphenous vein, anterior tibial, lateral genicular and one of the posterior tibial (PTV) veins drained into the lateral root of the popliteal vein. However, the other PTV and medial genicular vein drained into the medial root of the popliteal vein. In the left anterior thigh region, we observed three femoral connections between the lateral and medial roots of the femoral vein while two connections were observed among them on the right side. Additionally, we encountered unusual connections which were described ‘Z’ & ‘M’ shaped between perforant branches of the deep femoral vein and inferior gluteal vein. Having knowledge about the deep vein variations in the lower limb will guide the radiological, surgical and clinical evaluation of the patients with deep vein thrombosis.

High prevalence of cervical perineural cysts on cervical spine MRI-Case series
The Cervical perineural (Tarlov) cysts have been reported to be a rare occurance. The frequency, distribution and possible clinical relevance of such perineural cyst in the cervical spine were studied. In a retrospective...
Simultaneous iliacus and psoas muscle variations
Dissection of a 98-year-old female cadaver identified three previously unrecorded simultaneous variations in the iliac region. A variant iliacus muscle originated in the iliac fossa and then split at the insertion point...
Variants of the cephalic arch: report of 2 cases
The cephalic arch is a unique anatomic structure. Multiple variants of its usual morphology and termination have been described in the literature. We present 2 cadaveric cases of variants of the cephalic arch; firstly, a...
An unusual variant of the origin of the short head of biceps brachii
Biceps brachii is a muscle known to have common anatomical and morphological variability, with well-described supernumerary heads. However, although there has been extensive investigation and reporting of the long head a...
Preperitoneal pelvic kidney: Revisiting the significance of variant anatomy to the clinician of the future
The kidneys are retroperitoneal organs applied to the posterior abdominal wall. Renal ectopia and structural alterations are of clinical significance. Most renal ectopia occurs in the pelvis and has a strong association...
