Abstract
Scientific Realism and Anti-Realism Scientific realism and anti-realism are two different approaches regarding the status of scientific theories which claim to describe material reality truly. Real-ism asserts that scientific theories are also capable of describing the material world lying beyond the field of observation; while anti-realism asserts that scientific theo-ries cannot be true or false with regard to the material world lying beyond the field of observation, and that they can only function as instruments in understanding it. This study evaluates the significance of scientific theories in the context of the debate between scientific realism and anti-realism.
