Biological activity of polypore Mushrooms: Laetiporus sulphureus, Piptoporus betulinus, and Trametes versicolor

Journal Title: Medicina Internacia Revuo - Year 2018, Vol 28, Issue 111

Abstract

Polypore mushrooms from the Basidomycota taxon, are used in medicine. Laetiporus sulphureus, Piptoporus betulinus, Trametes versicolor, are species with proven antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anticancer effects. Well-known secondary metabolites produced by woodworm mushrooms are polysaccharides, phenolic compounds, indole compounds, terpenes, vitamins, bioelements. Isolated compounds and extracts of fruiting bodies and mycelial cultures have found application in the treatment of cancer and prevention of diseases of the cardiovascular system, diabetes, and microbial infections. The aim of the work was to demonstrate a broad spectrum of biological activity of selected three species of polypore mushroom: Laetiporus sulphureus, Piptoporus betulinus, and Trametes versicolor.
