Journal Title: Dokuz Eylul Universitesi Tip Fakultesi Dergisi - Year 2018, Vol 32, Issue 2
Abstract
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is an important and long-term complication of diabetes. Prolonged exposure to high blood glucose levels in diabetic subjects, causes damage to the peripheral nerves. Due to nerve damage in diabetic neuropathy decreased foot sensation and muscle weakness occurs and as a result; gait and balance are affected. Abnormalities in gait and balance increases risk of fall incidence. The increase in awareness and suitable approaches to the diabetic peripheral neuropathy has led to reduced morbidity and substantial health care cost.
