Baeyer condensation: A Facile Synthesis of Triarylmethanes using atomized Sodium in THF under Sonic Condition
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Chemistry and Environment (IJRCE) - Year 2013, Vol 3, Issue 2
Abstract
[i] A simple and an efficient procedure for a one-pot three-component condensation of substituted aldehydes and N,N-dimethylaniline into corresponding triarylmethanes by atomized sodium in THF under ultrasonic condition is developed. The new protocol for the Baeyer condensation under sonic condition works with commercially available precursors and an economically viable catalyst, involves simple work-up, gives high yields of the products and the reactions go to completion within 2–5 mins.
