Abstract

In the second half of the XIX century Polish historical science moved on the principles of positivism which served the ideas of organic labor. Researchers in humanities belived that as in exact sciences there is an opportunity to predict the future outcome. The introduction in Jagiellonian and later Lviv universities of Polish history departments and the gradual polonization f these education institutions gave hope for the revival of the statehood lost in the XVIII century by a peaceful evolutionary way. Polish society was waiting for answers form professional historians in what were the causes of past failures. The real event was the publication of Trilogy by G.Senkevich which strengthened the spirit of the people and desire to continue struggle for the revival of the state. Poles liberation struggles often contradicted the similar attempts of Ukrainians. The «Trilogy» of the Polish writer of the Nobel Prize winner still controvercy approaches among the general public and among professional historians.
