Bone Marrow Study in Adult with Pancytopenia

Abstract
Background- Pancytopenia is a common haematological condition often encountered in day to day clinical practice. Methods- This was a cross-sectional study conducted over a period of one year. All the cases of pancytopenia with hemoglobin less than 10 gm/dl, total leucocyte count of less than 4000/mm3 and platelet count less than 150,000/mm3 were included in the study. Results- Hypoplastic marrow was the commonest aspiration finding followed by erythroid hyperplasia, hematological malignancies and megaloblastic anemia. Conclusion -Major differential diagnostic considerations of pancytopenia are hypoplastic anemia, hematological malignancies and megaloblastic anemia.
