Bone sialoprotein in laboratory diagnostic of osteoarthritis

Journal Title: Ortopedia Traumatologia Rehabilitacja - Year 2008, Vol 10, Issue 3

Abstract

Changes in osteoarthritis joint appear in the articular cartilage, synovium and in subchondral bone. It is necessary to find, except markers of the cartilage destruction, a sensitive and specific biochemical marker which would reflect the metabolism as well as degradation of the subchondral bone. The bone sialoprotein is synthesized mostly in the osseous tissue being directly found under a surface of joint cartilage. In this reason is more often perceived as valuable marker of the metabolism of this layer of bone. Bone sialoprotein seems to be of use as the marker in the estimation of subchondral bone metabolism in laboratory diagnostic of osteoarthritis.
