Brain nitric oxide synthases in the interleukin-1β-induced activation of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis.
Journal Title: Pharmacological Reports - Year 2012, Vol 64, Issue 6
Abstract
Interleukin-1β (IL-1β), the major cytokine involved in activation of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis modulates both central and peripheral components regulating HPA activity. The role of nitric oxide (NO) generated by neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in brain structures involved in HPA axis regulation has not been elucidated. The aim of the study was to assess the receptor selectivity of IL-1β stimulatory action on HPA axis and to determine the involvement of nNOS and iNOS in this stimulation.

Chemical structure of phenothiazines and their biological activity.
Phenothiazines belong to the oldest, synthetic antipsychotic drugs, which do not have their precursor in the world of natural compounds. Apart from their fundamental neuroleptic action connected with the dopaminergic rec...
Immobility stress induces depression-like behavior in the forced swim test in mice: effect of magnesium and imipramine.
Previously, we demonstrated antidepressant-like effect of magnesium (Mg) in the forced swim test (FST). Moreover, the joint administration of Mg and imipramine (IMI) at ineffective doses per se, resulted in a potent redu...
Expression of multiple Transient Receptor Potential channel genes in murine 3T3-L1 cell lines and adipose tissue.
Background: Calcium and its signaling have a role in adipogenesis. Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) channels are non-selective cation channels with a high permeability to calcium. Methods: In the present study the expr...
Novel approaches to improving endothelium-dependent nitric oxide-mediated vasodilatation.
Endothelial dysfunction, which is defined by decreased endothelium-dependent vasodilatation, is associated with an increased number of cardiovascular events. Nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability is reduced by altered endoth...
Simvastatin-induced prevention of the increase in TNF-alpha level in the acute phase of ischemic stroke.
Like other proinflammatory cytokines, TNF-alpha may play an important role in the development of central nervous system injury following ischemic stroke. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of early treat...
