“BREXIT” IN GREAT BRITAIN AS A WAY TO RESTORE STATE SOVEREIGNTY

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the problem of patriotism in Great Britain. Particular emphasis is placed on determining the character- istics of the national character and worldview of the British, their way of life and age-old traditions. It can be said that Britons are patriots of their country, although they do not use this term. Their peculiarity is pedantry and reluctance to adapt to the global changes taking place in the world. The British do not trust new phenomena that can change their cultural values and traditions. They are trying to preserve the peculiarities of their way of life. Analyzing modern features of state-building processes, it should be noted that Britain has always sought to maintain maximum independ- ence, as evidenced by the special status that she was endowed with as a member of the EU. However, even under such conditions, the results of the referendum in 2016 led to the country’s withdrawal from the EU (51,9% of the country’s citizens voted to leave the EU, and only 48,1% voted against it). Given the current situation with Britain’s exit from the European Union, it has become a country that does not see itself as part of Europe. The British consistently abandon this privilege, in every way separating themselves from all over the world and striving to be themselves, and in this they succeeded. One of the decisive reasons for Britain’s departure from the EU was the issue of migration and economic dependence of the country in which London was completely dependent on the European Union. The fear of losing their national identity and economic components played an important role in restoring Britain’s national sovereignty.
