BRIQUETTING OF AFŞİN-ELBİSTAN LIGNITE USING BIOMASS AND BINDER ADDITIVES
Journal Title: Gazi Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Dergisi Part C: Tasarım ve Teknoloji - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
In this study, a lignite sample from Afşin-Elbistan area of Turkey was briquetted using hazelnut shell, sunflower shell and prina as additives. The lignite and biomass samples were first briquetted separately without blending under pressures of 280, 555, 830 and 1110 MPa. Lignite-biomass blends were prepared to contain 2, 5, 10 and 20 %wt hazelnut shell, sunflower shell and prina as additives. The blends were also briquetted using three different binder materials (molasses, starch and black liquor). Shatter index, compressive strength and water resistance of the formed briquettes were determined and compared. The addition of biomass samples into Afşin-Elbistan lignite were found to affect shatter index positively and to adversely affect the water resistance of briquettes. The addition of 2 %wt prina and sunflower shell into lignite caused a significant increase in compressive strength. Using binder materials affected both compressive strength and shatter index negatively. However, the water resistance of the briquettes increased with the increase in binder material concentration.

A Goal Programming Model for Multi-Resource Generalized Assignment Problem that Contains Agents With Different Abilities and Priorities Along With Jobs to Be Assigned to the Same Agents
Generalized Assignment Problem (GAP) is assignment of jobs to agents with capacity constraints. For Multi Resource GAP (MR-GAP), as an extension of GAP, each agent has a certain number of constrained resources. The aim o...
Error Probability Analysis of a Composite Weibull/Log-Normal Fading Channel
In this study, error probability of a single-input single-output (SISO) system is investigated over a composite Weibull/log-normal fading channel. We aim to study a SISO system in the composite Weibull/log-normal composi...
The barrier height (BH) and ideality factor (n) distribution in identically prepared Al/ Bi3Ti4O12/n-Si (MFS) structures
In this study, the values of barrier heights and ideality factors of identically fabricated Au/BTO/n-Si (MFS) type SBDs (60 dots) have been obtained from their intercepts and slopes linear parts of forward bias lnI vs V...
Stator Configuration for Cogging Torque Minimization of Surface Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators
In this study, we present the structural changes in the stator core to reduce the cogging torque in a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous generators. The effect of these structural changes on cogging torque and...
Estimates of Energy Consumption Using Neural Networks with the Grey Wolf Optimizer Algorithm for Turkey
The primary objective of this study was to apply the ANN (artificial neural network) model with the grey wolf optimizer (GWO) algorithm to estimate energy consumption of Turkey. Gross domestic product, population, import...
