Business history: what does it teach and does it help understand the global crisis?

Abstract
The text explores the process of institutionalization of business history as an academic discipline. It analyzes the methods of instruction and content of university courses on business history. It also investigates the representations of the past in textbooks and other materials used in teaching in order to assess whether or not explanations of past events by business historians can provide future managers with an insight into the mechanisms of the present economic crisis.
