CALCULATING THE IONIZATION RATE INDUCED BY GCR AND SCR PROTONS IN EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2019, Vol 5, Issue 3
Abstract
This paper explores the applied use of the RUSCOSMICS software package [http://ruscosmics.ru] designed to simulate propagation of primary cosmic ray (CR) particles through Earth’s atmosphere and collect information about characteristics of their secondary component. We report the results obtained for proton fluxes with energy distributions corresponding to the differential spectra of galactic CR (GCR) and solar CR (SCR) during ground level enhancement (GLE) events GLE65 and GLE67. We examine features of the geometry of Earth’s atmosphere, parametrization methods, and describe a primary particle generator. The typical energy spectra of electrons obtained both for GCR and for GLE65 provide information that allows us to quantitatively estimate the SCR contribution to the enhancement of secondary CR fluxes. We also present altitude dependences of ionization rate for GCR and both the GLE events for several geomagnetic cutoff rigidity values. The conclusion summarizes and discusses the prospects for future research.

GEOMAGNETIC DATA RECOVERY APPROACH BASED ON THE CONCEPT OF DIGITAL TWINS
There is no ground-based magnetic station or observatory that guarantees the quality of information received and transmitted to it. Data gaps, outliers, and anomalies are a common problem affecting virtually any ground-b...
STUDYING 630 NM ATOMIC OXYGEN EMISSION SOURCES DURING STRONG MAGNETIC STORMS IN THE NIGHT MID-LATITUDE IONOSPHERE
We analyze significant increases in 630 nm atomic oxygen night emissions during very strong geomagnetic storms, using optical measurements, theoretical modeling, and magnetogram inversion technique (MIT) data. It is show...
BEHAVIOR OF ELECTRON DENSITY IN THE IONOSPHERE OVER NORILSK DURING THE PERIOD OF DECLINING SOLAR ACTIVITY
We report the results of approximation of electron density Ne array obtained with a digisonde at the high-latitude station Norilsk (69.40° N, 88.10° E) during years of declining solar activity (2003–2006). The calculatio...
Long-period geomagnetic pulsations as an element of the space weather influence on technologocal systems
We analyze variations in geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) and pulsations of the geomagnetic field latitudinal By component in the frequency range 1–20 mHz. The analysis is based on the data from GIC registration at...
OFFSETS IN THE GEOMAGNETIC INDICES OF THE MAGNETOSPHERIC RING CURRENT
The paper considers changes in the daily average values of the Dst, SYM-H, ASY-H, and ASY-D indices and their dependence on the level of magnetic disturbance for the period 1981–2016. These indices are geomagnetic charac...
