Calculation of the average width of a clearance with roughness or a channel with complicated shape of surface

Abstract
A new factor is taken into account in the calculation of the average width of a clearance with roughness whose size is comparable to its width. Taking this factor into account leads to a reduction of the average width of the clearance from a few dozen percent. This method is applicable also to the calculation of the average width or cross sectional area of a channel or a pipe with complicated shape of surface.
