Can Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography Findings Forecast Visual Outcome in the Case of Macular Edema?
Journal Title: International Journal of Ophthalmology & Eye Science (IJOES) - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 8
Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the relationship between visual outcome and the photoreceptor inner segment/outer segment (IS/ OS) layer status in patients with macular edema of any etiology. Design: Cross-sectional study Patients with macular edema of any etiology and who did not present with a disrupted IS/OS line were enrolled. We obtained simultaneous visual acuity and optical coherence tomography (OCT) of patients with macular edema using a spectral-domain (SD) OCT system. The device recorded retinal thickness on tomography. SD OCT was recorded repeatedly in patients before and after treatment with an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agent or triamcinolone, and the central thickness, IS, and OS were measured. The IS/OS ratio was calculated, and the data were analyzed statistically. We also reviewed the OCT scans to determine the type of macular edema, i.e., cystoid macular edema or diffuse macular edema (absence of any cysts).

Snapshots for intra- and inter-ocular differences at retinal proteins levels
We attempted to study the intra- and inter-animal variations of protein expressions in chick retina using two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE). The posterior retinas of 10 day-old chicks were harvested. The proteins we...
Microorganisms and Common Ophthalmic Diseases
The human eye is in constant contact to environmental conditions that increase its likelihood in being exposed to a multitude of pathogens. Studies have revealed that the normal microbial flora found around the ocular ar...
Profile of Secondary Glaucoma in A Semi Urban Tertiary Health Care Hospital In Nigeria
Introduction: Glaucoma is the second-most-frequent cause of blindness in the world. Most primary glaucomas are managed by early diagnosis and treatment however secondary glaucomas differ from primary by the fact that, if...
Relation of Pupil Size and retinal diseases
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate differences in pupil size of subjects with diabetes mellitus, age-related macular degeneration and retinal vein occlusion at different illumination levels with a novel pupil...
Health Coaching and Glaucoma: A Qualitative Evaluation of the Patient Experience in a Preliminary Study
Introduction: Successful medical treatment of glaucoma requires adherence to daily eye drop medications. Health coaching, which has been used successfully for other chronic diseases, may be helpful for glaucoma patients....
