Cehegín: tierra de frontera en la Baja Edad Media
Journal Title: Alquipir - Year 2021, Vol 16, Issue 1
Abstract
After the protectorate and subsequent conquest of the Murcian kingdom by Castile, an episode in its history marked by war began for the town of Cehegín due to its geographical position with respect to its enemy, the Islamic kingdom of Granada. This is because its position as a border makes it the scene of battles or, rather, of incursions by Muslims into an uninhabited territory (such as Cehegín was) for fear of war, which will lead to the establishment of military orders. to face it. Each one of them will be in charge of safeguarding its people, promoting repopulation, trying to end captivity, a typical activity in the Murcian-Granada border land, and achieve the stability that with the taking of Granada in 1492 became more than possible.
