Ceiba Pentradenta wood waste activated carbon for waste water treatment
Journal Title: Carbon - Science and Technology - Year 2014, Vol 6, Issue 2
Abstract
Adsorption is considered to be one of the most promising techniques for waste water treatment over the last decades. The low materials originated from various sources such as agricultural sources and byproducts, agricultural residues and wastes, low-cost sources from which most complex adsorbents will be produced. The farming waste material has to be disposed either safely or must be reused for some valuable purpose. In this consent Ceiba Pentradenta Wood waste, an agricultural waste material which is being converted as Activated carbon in presence of Nitrogen atmosphere at 7000 oC is used as an adsorbent for dye removal. The portrayal studies such as bulk density, moisture content, ash content, fixed carbon content, soluble matter (water, acid), matter soluble in acid, pH, decolourising power, ion exchange capacity, percentage content and surface area have been carried out to assess the suitability of these carbons as absorbents in treatment of the water and wastewater. The present study reveals the recovery of valuable adsorbents from readily and cheaply available agriculture wastes.

Batch Kinetics, isotherm and thermodynamic studies of adsorption of strontium from aqueous solutions onto low cost rice-straw based carbons
Present study explored the feasibility of using waste rice-straw based carbons as adsorbent for the removal of strontium under different experimental conditions. The batch sorption is studied with respect to solute conce...
Dry fermentation technology for utilization of Bio-energy crops/crop residues for biogas production
Indian state Punjab produces 160 lakh tones of paddy every year. More than this quantity of paddy, straw is also produced which is not properly utilized. Paddy is burnt in the farmer’s fields itself, which produces lot o...

Dual distributions for the metallic and semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes observed by Raman spectroscopy
The prospective applicability of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) is highly dependent on its controlled synthesis. Effects of few macroscopic growth-conditions (such as catalyst composition, temperature of depositio...
Characterization of carbon pastes as matrices in composite electrodes for use in electrochemical capacitors
Carbon paste electrodes (CPEs) were prepared from carbon black powder with different binders (Silicon Oil or Nujol). Cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry and chronopotentiometry techniques and different electrolytes (1M...
