Central Asia’s security environment and regional defence capacity

Abstract

This paper focuses on the security of Central Asia and efforts among those national actors to build common security structures and their attempts for military cooperation both regionally and as part of international security organizations. Next, the existing and potential internal and external threats that could destabilize the Central Asia’s current political systems are identified. Each country’s unique concepts of national security, which have evolved over the past two decades, are also considered. The paper examines and compares the capability of the region’s armed forces and their capacities to meet likely threats in the near future. Finally, the potential threats confronting the region in the coming years are discussed.<br/><br/>
