Abstract
This article presents the mechanism of functioning of censorship in Poland in the twentieth century, especially during the communist era. Censorship of the totalitarian state was both preventive and repressive censorship. In addition, the interventions were not mentioned in the text. The idea is that the reader does not know where the interference was carried out, and where not. At what point are the words of the author, and the sentence inserted by the censor. The aim was to suggest to the reader that the author so just thinking, how would like a party. In the early eighties the "Solidarity" movement won a change in the law on censorship, interference it had to be marked in the text. After martial law was changed the law, the right to select the interference is allowed only Catholic newspapers. By the end of PRL was forbidden to write about censorship, nor to present the history of the institution in earlier years. It is worth noting that apart from institutional censorship official, there was also censorship and self-censorship informal.
