Cervical Cancer: An Emerging Public Health Issue in Bayelsa State Metropolis

Abstract
The incidence of cervical cancer among women in Bayelsa State metropolis was studied. A total of four hundred and fifty (450) Pap smear were obtained from women age between 10 years and 70 years. An incidence of 1.5% was recorded. Atypical squamous cells (ASC) was 74% (67(9±5.7). Negative 360 (51±36) HSIL 16(2±2.6) were recorded. Cervical cancer a malignant neoplasm of the uterine cervix is passing a major public health issue in the state and urgent steps to establish screening and follow up clinic in the state capital is urgently advocated
