Cervical cancer screening
Journal Title: Ginekologia Praktyczna - Year 2006, Vol 88, Issue 1
Abstract
Cervical cancer as second in the world, just after the breast carcinoma, causes death from neoplastic reasons. First cervical screening programs were introduced between 50s and 60s of the last century. Introducing the cervical screening programs caused 60–90% decrease in mortality from cervical cancer. Modern screening programs are based on active and population screening with the use of new technology – HPV tests and liquid base cytology. In Poland, it is essential to introduce national cervical screening program immediately, which would contribute to decrease in mortality from that cancer and in incidence of that matter.
