CHANGE IN LOADING DISTRIBUTION IN LARGE-SIZED BEARING RESULTING FROM PLASTIC WEAR

Abstract

For technological reasons the raceways of large-sized bearings are made of a material in an normalized state or quenched and tempered. They are commonly used for bearing the main rotation of the body of the largest mobile machines – basic machines of open cast mining: excavators and spreaders. The diameters of such bearings are up to several meters, and the diameters of rolling elements up to 250 mm. Due to high levels of load at relatively low hardness, in the first stage of operation they undergo intensive plastic wear. The initial distribution of loading is subject to a change. In the dumping conveyor with the body weight of 11,000 Mg, at selected points the wear of a track after the first four years of operation has been determined. The wear reached a value of more than 7% of the radius of the rolling element. With the use of numerical methods, a comparison of rolling elements loading in the dumping conveyor ZGOT 11500 for a new bearing, a new bearing placed on the faced annular girder and a used bearing was made. The values were determined for selected eccentrics of the centre of gravity of the body from the axis of rotation. The calculations of load distribution with the finite element method was carried out using a super-element raceway – a rolling element – a raceway. A considerable decrease in the maximum value of load and the transfer of load by a much larger number of rolling elements was found. During the subsequent six-year operation it was found that the process of bearing wear had stopped.
