Changes in the water inflow to the Central Pumping Station Bolko in Bytom
Journal Title: Biuletyn Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Year 2009, Vol 436, Issue 436
Abstract
In 2008 twenty years has passed by since the central drainage system of mine workings belonging to 5 closed zinc and lead ore mines in the Bytom Trough had started its work. In the years 1989–2008 six periods were distinguished that differed in the amount of water flowing into the system. Total water inflow to the pumping station ranged from 19.4 m[sup]3[/sup]/min (2005) to 39.0 m[sup]3[/sup]/min (1997). After the period of high water inflow 38.6–39.0 m[sup]3[/sup]/min in the years 1996–1997, and also 30.3–30.4 m[sup]3[/sup]/min in the period 2001–2002, significantly lower water inflows 19.4–23.5 m[sup]3[/sup]/min have been observed since 2003. Lower water inflow to the pumping station in comparison with the expected 36.0 m[sup]3[/sup]/min, led to escape of ca. 5.0–6.0 m[sup]3[/sup]/min of water when its flow direction has been changed, after main pumping stations in the eastern area had been shut down, and two water escape from western area to the mine workings of coal mine lying below.
