Characteristics of patients in a university hospital internal medicine clinic and an overview of hospitalization reasons

Abstract

Introduction: One of the important goals of health care is to solve problems related with internal diseases. These are carried out by Internal Medicine Departments. By this research it is aimed to investigate properties and hospitalization of inpatient in internal medicine clinic. Material and Method: Three hundred and three inpatients between June 2017-June 2018 in Kırıkkale university, faculty of medicine Hospital, internal medicine clinic were investigated. Patient data and hospitalization reasons were scanned from hospital information processing system by electronically. Results: Average age was calculated as 68.19±13.95. Male patients counted 115, female patients counted 188. Most frequent hospitalization reason was diabetic blood glucose regulation and complication treatment. Second frequent reason was electrolyte imbalance, third reason was searching anemia etiology and symptomatic treatment. Conclusion: Internal medicine departments are interested in acute problems, management of chronic illnesses and investigation of undiagnosed conditions especially in geriatric patients. These conditions should be evaluated by integrated, multisystemic and analytic approach.
