Chemical durability of soda-lime glass in aqueous acid solutions
Journal Title: Ovidius University Annals of Chemistry - Analele Universităţii "Ovidius" Constanţa. Seria chimie - Year 2012, Vol 23, Issue 1
Abstract
Acid dissolution of soda-lime glass was rigorously investigated. Aqueous solutions containing 1N HNO[sub]3[/sub], HCl, H[sub]2[/sub]SO[sub]4[/sub] and CH[sub]3[/sub]COOH were used to measure the durability of the soda-lime glass samples. Flame emission spectrometry (FES) and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy were used to determine the concentration of Na[sup]+[/sup], K[sup]+[/sup], Ca[sup]2+[/sup] and Si[sup]4+[/sup] ions in solutions after dissolution. Weight loss analyses and microstructural characterization were used to evaluate the compositional changes of the glass samples.
