Chest X- Ray Findings in Patients of Tuberculous Lymphadenitis

Abstract

To evaluate association of lesions on chest x-ray in cases of tuberculous lymphadenitis at Bhausaheb Sardesai Talegaon Rural Hospital (BSTRH), attached with M.I.M.E.R. Medical college, Talegaon Dabhade, Maharashtra. Methods: This study was done at Bhausaheb Sardesai Rural Hospital attached to MIMER Medical College at Talegaon Dabhade, Maharshtra. Chest x-ray was done in all patients diagnosed of tuberculous lymphadenitis and apparently chest asymptomatics. The diagnosis of tuberculous lymphadenitis was confirmed mainly on fine needle aspiration cytology. Results: Of 70 cases of tuberculous lymphadenitis, normal CXR was in 62 cases (88.57%), while abnormal CXR in 8 cases(11.42%). Lung Parenchymal infiltrate and cavity seen in 4 cases(5.7%), Hilar lymphnode enlargement in 3 cases (4.28%), pleuaral effusion in 1 case (1.42%), medial end of clavicle showing lytic lesions in 1 case(1.42%) associated with right upper lobe cavity which is a rare finding. Conclusion: All tuberculous lymphadenitis patients should be subjected for routine chest x-ray PA view before categarisation of patient.
