Journal Title: Stanley Medical Journal - Year 2015, Vol 2, Issue 4

Abstract

Adverse reactions to medications are extremely common and display a characteristic clinical morphology such as Fixed Drug Eruption (FDE), Stevens-Johnson syndrome, urticaria, hypersensitivity syndrome, pigmentary changes, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, photosensitivity, vasculitis etc. Fixed drug eruption is an immune mediated cutaneous lesion of acute onset which recur a same site & residual hyperpigmentation after healing .Here we report a case of 45 year old woman had consumed T.Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily for fever. After the second dose she developed multiple well defined erythematous, oedematous plaques of varying size over the left forearm dorsum of hands, feet, chest, Rt.thigh & perioral hyperpigmentation. Similar history was present 6 months back. A presumptive diagnosis of Ciprofloxacin induced Fixed Drug Eruption was made & drug was stopped. The patient was admitted & treated with systemic & topical steroids. She recovered. Possibility of occurrence of FDE with ciprofloxacin must be kept in mind while prescribing
