Citizens’ Participation in the Noise Action Planning
Journal Title: Challenges of Modern Technology - Year 2016, Vol 7, Issue 2
Abstract
The complexity of noise mapping and action planning, the free interpretation of Article 8.7. (Action plans – Public Participation) and Article 9.2. (Information to the Public – Information about Noise Action Plans) of the Directive 2002/49/EC Environmental Noise Directive (END), the lack of a statement about public participation within the achievement of END tasks, and difficulties with the general public’s understanding of the noise maps and action plans requires a discussion about the willingness and opportunities of citizens to provide additional information and feedback about noise issues to the city authorities; as well as about their participation in the establishment of noise action plans. The aim of this paper is to find out the level of citizens’ participation motivation within the noise action planning. The research goals are achieved through the organization and conduct of face-to-face interviews to study the readiness of citizens to participate online in surveys about noise, to use smart phone applications in order to measure noise pollution, and to provide the results to city authorities. The results are compared with similar participation level studies of earlier online discussions about noise. The report concludes with a proposal for optimization of public participation, via a horizontal participation model, in the noise action planning.

The aim of this article is to investigate whether easy access to green areas has got an influence on the value of the rental rate of commercial premises, and if so – then how to calculate the value of this factor? Determ...
Investigation on the course of complex processes carried out in vortex impinging jet reactors
The paper presents an application of CFD simulations to predict a course of complex processes carried out in jet reactors. In this work the simulations results were verified with PIV and PLIF techniques and validated by...
Tempo 30 – Noise Reduction and Synergy Effects
This article describes a noise reduction method applied in the German-speaking realm in Europe, the so-called Tempo 30 (T30) restriction that limits vehicular speed to 30 km per hour, and differentiates between T30 arran...
CFD Simulation and Experimental Study of Ultrasonic Flowmeters
This paper deals with CFD simulation and experimental study of ultrasonic flowmeters. A mathematical model of an ultrasonic flowmeter (USM) was built for studying the errors of flow measurement in disturbed flows. The me...
Profiles of products generated during betacyanins reduction by 2-methylpyridine borane
Betanin and neobetanin (14,15-dehydrogenated betanin), natural betacyanin pigments were subjected to a gentle reduction by 2-methylpyridine borane. During each reduction reaction, the visible spectra were collected. The...
