City dwelling and inequality: testing Kuznets’ hypothesis in Iran

Abstract

The relationship between income inequality and economic growth is one of the most important questions of programmers and policy makers. So explaining the process reached by the method of these two variables’ relationship will have a significant role in the current policy making of the country.The purpose of the present study is to investigate the relationship between these two variables using Kuznets model and considering the process of growth effect on income distribution by the relationship between rural migration to cities and increase of city population and income inequality after revolution using Angles model. The results showed the validity of Kuznets model for post-revolution years. In other words in beginning stages of development with increase of urban population and rural migration to cities, first income inequality increases and declines with elapse of the time.
