CLINICAL EFFICACY OF PATHYADI KASHAYA AND THRIPHALA GHRITHA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ANANTHAVATA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO TENSION TYPE HEADACHE

Abstract
Charaka Trimarmiya adhyaya highlights, Shiras is one major marma which seats for pranavata, alochaka pitta and tarpaka kapha. Imbalance of doshadhathu and mala related to the sirasa and manya pradesha will cause shiro roga. Ananthavata is a benign and recurrent syndrome of headache, neck pain, eye pain and other neurological dysfunction. With studying the etiopathogenesis of the ailment, Ananthavata co-relates with Tension Type Headache. The present study was conducted to evaluate the hypothesis that whether Pathyadi kashaya and Thriphala ghrita clinically effect in the management of Ananthavata. Three separate groups in equal amount of cases whom selected through simple random sampling method (n=90) were studied through oral administration of pre-authenticated poly-herbal preparations for 21 days. The follow up period was two months. Assessment criteria were based on the symptomatic features with their frequencies. The study expressed significant results in reducing the symptoms of Ananthavata such as shiro shula, manya shula, nidra nasha, akshi shula (drishti adheerata) and hrudaya shunyata (irritability) in each group. Sheerashulahara, tridoshashamaka guna, ushna veerya, mala anulomana, properties of the kashaya responsible in srotho dushti and srothoshodhana on manovaha and raktavaha srotas. Tridoshashamaka, snayu drudakara, shulahara, mrudu virechaka and rasayana properties of thriphala ghrita may effect on srotho marga which relates to mano karma, chakshu indriya and manya pradesha. Special effect of vata pacifying property of ghee may show a significant result in prognosis of sleeping disturbances. Having combination of therapies, group C elaborated the most significant results other than group A and B whilst the study.
