Abstract

Brenner Tumor (BT) is a relatively uncommon neoplasm, accounting 1- 2% of all ovarian neoplasms, identified in 1907 by Fritz Brenner. Most BTs are benign. Malignant BTs are extremely rare, comprising < 5 % of all ovarian tumors. We report a 55 year old woman attended our hospital with history of pain abdomen for the past 9 months. On examination, a mass was felt per abdomen arising from pelvis. On gynecological examination cervix and vagina were observed to be healthy. Uterus was mobile and irregularly enlarged. The USG finding showed a well – defined – lobular right adnexal mass suggestive of ovarian tumor. On laparotomy, lobular, solid, partially cystic tumor was found on right side. Grossly, the tumor was 11 x 8 x 4 cm sizes, with white nodular surfaces. On histological examination well-Brenner Tumor (BT) is a relatively uncommon neoplasm, accounting 1- 2% of all ovarian neoplasms, identified in 1907 by Fritz Brenner. Most BTs are benign. On histological examination well- circumscribed epithelial cell nests were found, with sharply demarcated border, surrounded by abundant fibrous stroma, but with malignant nuclei and with strong diffuse reactivity of Ca 125 marker. Conclusion: on the base of pointed out features, the authors have concluded that Brenner tumor represents a rare ovarian epithelial neoplasm, accounting 1 - 2 % of all ovarian tumors and inducing both various microscopic patterns and faulty microscopic diagnosis.
