Cold Hardening Prevents H2O2-induced Programmed Cell Death in Maize Coleoptiles
Journal Title: Журнал ÑтреÑÑ-физиологии и биохимии - Year 2013, Vol 9, Issue 1
Abstract
An influence of cold hardening (8 °С, 7 days) on the respiration intensity, the content of reactive oxygen species and DNA fragmentation in coleoptiles of maize etiolated seedlings of different ages and a possibility of the cold hardening to prevent execution of the cell death, induced by treatment with 10 mM H[sub]2[/sub]O[sub]2[/sub] (for 4 hours) of seedlings have been studied. It has been shown that H[sub]2[/sub]O[sub]2[/sub] induces total DNA fragmentation in coleoptiles of maize etiolated seedlings, and a preliminary cold hardening prevents this process.

Growth and Yield Quality Parameter of Phyllanthus Amarus as Affected by Moisture and Temperature Stress factors
This work investigates the influence of moisture and temperature stress on plant phenological parameters of Phyllanthus amarus plant. A pot experiment was conducted under controlled water stress environment in greenhouse...
ABA biosynthesis defective mutants reduce some free amino acids accumulation under drought stress in tomato leaves in comparison with Arabidopsis plants tissues
The ability of plants to tolerate drought conditions is crucial for plant survival and crop production worldwide. The present data confirm previous findings reported existence of a strong relation between abscisic acid (...
Genotypic Variation for Salinity Tolerance in Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) Genotypes at Early Growth Stages
Sorghum ([i]Sorghum bicolor[/i] L. Moench) is the fifth most economically important crop among cereals in the world. Salinity is an abiotic factor which reduces productivity of sorghum. Exploiting genetic variability to...
Response of rice plants to heat stress during initiation of panicle primordia or grain-filling phases
Leaf photosynthesis, a major determinant for yield sustainability in rice, is greatly conditioned by high temperature stress during growth. The effect of short-term high temperatures on leaf photosynthesis, stomatal cond...
Protective Effect of Virgin Olive Oil (Olea europea L.) Against Oxidative Damage Induced by Mercuric Chloride in Rat Albinos Wistar
Olive oil is beneficial effects are not only related to its high content of oleic acid, but also to the antioxidant potential of its polyphenols. In this study, we assess the effects of virgin olive oil on mercuric chlor...
