COLD PERIOD IN THE SOUTHERN STEPPE ZONE OF UKRAINE AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE GROWTH OF WINTER WHEAT

Abstract
The analysis of changes in climatic conditions of the cold period in the zone of southern Steppes of Ukraine is presented. It is estimated, that the length of the cold period of the year for the last 100 years has decreased from 131 days to 59 days and for the last 10 years, the average duration of winter has decreased to 40 days and at the present time there is every reason to believe that a decrease in winter days will continue in the future. In this paper main reasons of loss and damage to winter wheat in the winter period are listed. It is proved that climate changes in the area of the southern steppe of Ukraine provide a more comfortable temperature conditions for growing winter wheat.
