Comparative analysis between findings of magnetic resonance spectroscopy of the masseter muscle in patients with and without temporomandibular disorder: part III
Journal Title: RSBO - Year 2009, Vol 6, Issue 4
Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the possible modifications of the masseter muscle regarding the metabolites – creatine, choline and lipid – in patients with and without temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) trough magnetic resonance spectroscopy sequence. Material and methods: 20 volunteers were selected (11 without TMD and 9 with TMD), with full dentition and Angle class I occlusion. Results: The relationship between the metabolites was preserved in both groups, but it showed an increasing tendency of the raw values reported regarding the magnetic ressonance spectroscopy of the group with TMD. Conclusion: The magnetic resonance spectroscopy sequence was effective to prove the metabolic changes in the masseter muscle in the group with TMD in comparison to the group without TMD.
