Comparative analysis between magnetic resonance findings of masseter muscle in patients with and without temporomandibular disorder: part II

Journal Title: RSBO - Year 2009, Vol 6, Issue 4

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the possible modifications of the masseter muscle regarding signal intensity in patients with and without temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) through magnetic resonance.Material and methods: 20 volunteers were selected (11 without TMD and 9 with TMD), with full dentition and Angle class I occlusion. Results:The analysis of the magnetic resonance of the intensity of the masseter muscle presented a rate with a significant difference between the groups with and without TMD. Conclusion: The magnetic resonance was effective to prove the metabolic and physiological changes in the masseter muscle in the group with TMD in comparison to the group without TMD.
