Comparative evaluation of different doses of PPAR-γ agonist alone and in combination with sulfasalazine in experimentally induced inflammatory bowel disease in rats.
Journal Title: Pharmacological Reports - Year 2013, Vol 65, Issue 4
Abstract
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an idiopathic, chronic inflammatory condition, which affects the gastrointestinal tract and has no curative treatment. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of different doses of pioglitazone alone and in combination with sulfasalazine in TNBS (trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid)-induced inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in rats.

Influence of zinc hydroaspartate on the anti-inflammatory and gastric activity of ketoprofen in rats.
Background: The study's aim was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect and influence on gastric mucosa after the combined administration of ketoprofen and zinc hydroaspartate (ZHA, 60 mg/kg). Methods: Antiedematous act...
Luminal melatonin stimulates pancreatic enzyme secretion via activation of serotonin-dependent nerves.
Background: Serotonin (5-HT) is released from enterochromaffin cells in the gastrointestinal tract. 5-HT, via the activation of 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors on vagal fibers, mediates pancreatic secretion through the mechani...
Activation of nicotinamide N-methyltrasferase and increased formation of 1-methylnicotinamide (MNA) in atherosclerosis.
Nicotinamide N-methyltrasferase (NMMT) catalyzes the conversion of nicotinamide (NA) to 1-methylnicotinamide (MNA). Recent studies have reported that exogenous MNA exerts anti-thrombotic and anti-inflammatory activity, s...
Effect of selected antidepressant drugs on cytochrome P450 2B (CYP2B) in rat liver. An in vitro and in vivo study.
The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of antidepressants with different chemical structures and mechanisms of action affecting serotonergic and/or noradrenergic systems - tricyclic antidepressant...
Monocyte-suppressing effect of high-dose metformin in fenofibrate-treated patients with impaired glucose tolerance.
Background: Fibrates were found to reduce cytokine release and low-grade inflammation in patients with impaired glucose tolerance. The aim of this study was to investigate whether these effects of fibrates may be potenti...
