COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ADVERSE DRUG REACTIONS BETWEEN AMLODIPINE AND LOSARTAN IN OUT-PATIENTS OF PRIMARY HEALTHCARE CENTRE

Abstract

WHO recommends a sample size of at least 600 encounters for drug utilization studies (WHO how to investigate drug use in health facilities, 1993). Based on above recommendation, we used sample size of 600 patients. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that dilates (widens) blood vessels and improves blood flow. Losartan was first angiotensin II blocker. A Total of 600 patients taken in this study out of which 205 were diagnosed by hypertension. This study was done by reviewing by all available documents and interviewing patients during hospital visits. After taking written consent from the patient, the information was obtained. They were asked about side effects which they felt after taking medicine. This information gathered was entered in prepared questionnaire. The questionnaire was prepared with the help of Physician.
