Comparative study to evaluate the effect of vitamin D supplementation on vitamin D levels and pregnancy outcome at a tertiary care centre

Abstract

Background: Vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy has been supposed to defend against adverse gestational outcomes. Objectives: To study prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in pregnancy and its correlation with the maternal complications and evaluate perinatal outcome. Material And Methods: The study was carried out for 1 years on 100 pregnant, divided in two groups in which one group was given supplementation of vitamin D and 2nd group was of patients coming directly in labour Results: Significant association was found between vitamin defficiency status low birth weight, and cesarean mode of delivery. Significant improvement in cord vitamin D status after supplimentation Conclusions: We suggest vitamin supplimentation in ANC mothers with dietary guidance and adequate exposure to sun light.
