Comparing two methods of circular and transects samplings in terms of biodiversity indices

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2016, Vol 10, Issue 6

Abstract

Species diversity is considered as an index to compare the ecological conditions of forest ecosystems. This study aims to preserve biodiversity by considering 60 plots with an area of 316 ha in Darabkola forest, which was conducted by systematic randomly sampling and grid dimensions of 150 ×200 m in two ways of circular and transects (1000 m2) methods. Characteristics such as species type and diameter of trees were recorded. The results showed that there were significant differences between these two methods in terms of species diversity and richness indices in the tree layer; however, the evenness index showed no significant difference between the two methods. In addition, according to the maximum value of species relative importance (SIV), the most suitable indices for evaluation in the study area were diversity index of Shannon-Wiener, richness index of Menhinic and evenness index of Hill 1.
