COMPARISON OF 12-14 YEAR OLD INDIVIDUALS WHO DO SPORTS REGULARLY AND THOSE WHO DO NOT IN TERMS OF THEIR MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCE

Abstract

In this research, 12-14 year-old-individuals who do sports regularly have been compared with those who don’t do any sports in terms of their individual intelligence areas. Our aim is to find out the correlation between intelligence and sports. The research has been done on children aged between 12 and 14 in the schools and sports clubs of Sarıyer, Bakırköy, Güngören, Zeytinburnu and Bayrampaşa districts in İstanbul.The research has been done on 280 individuals, 127 of which are sportsmen and 153 of which do not do sports. They have been chosen randomly. “Multiple Intelligence Tests” which have been arranged by Saban have been given to them and results have been taken in terms of 8 different intelligence areas. The results of both groups have been examined to see if there is any difference in terms of their ages, gender and in general. In the analyses and interpretation of the data t tests have been used. The data have been evaluated with a computer statistics program. As a result of the research, it has been found out that there is no significant difference in most areas but there are some significant results in favour of those who do sports regularly in some areas and in favour of those who do not do sports in other areas. According to the age variable, there are any significant differences at aged 12 but there are significant differences of those who do not do sports in the visual, musical and social areas in aged 14. This results indicate that when the pressure of eight graders increases in exams, student move away from sport areas.
