Comparison of groundwater recharge estimation based on integrated catchment modelling and inverse modelling
Journal Title: Biuletyn Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Year 2008, Vol 431, Issue 431
Abstract
Groundwater flow modelling seems to be one of the most important tools of modern hydrogeology. It is used mainly to calculate spatial distribution of piezometric head in different scales of water flow. The infiltration recharge is a key component for estimating water resources. Using a physically based, distributed and integrated modelling system, such as MIKE SHE, it is feasible to calculate recharge as exchange rate between unsaturated and saturated zones. There is also another approach based on inverse problem. Allison (1988) has proposed a modification to a two-dimensional water flow equation in order to omit most critical disadvantages of ill-posed inverse problem (which is the case of inverse modelling of groundwater flow). In this paper, recharge calculated by an integrated model has been compared to estimations based on inverse modelling.

National Research Program “Implementation of programs and documentations identifying the hydrogeological conditions of Main Groundwater Basins (MGWB) for the designation of protected areas, for the purposes of planning and management of water” – assumptions, methodology and implementation
One of the tasks received in the Water Framework Directive and the Water Act is protection of groundwater, especially protection of Main groundwater basins (MGWB). In 2009–2015 years will be realization documentations of...
Modelling of water flow in double-porosity media
Natural soils and rocks often contain two porous systems having different physical properties. The double-porosity structure is related either to the development of a network of secondary porosity (fractures, fissures or...
