COMPARISON OF NON-TRAUMATIC NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES IN THE CONTEXT OF DISABILITY GUIDES

Journal Title: Kocatepe Medical Journal - Year 2024, Vol 25, Issue 3

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: In Turkey, more than one regulation is used in the evaluation of people due to their anatomical and functional losses. Problems arise in the learning and implementation of more than one regulation by experts. It is aimed to determine the similarities and differences of the regulations in order to create a standard regulation. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In our study, neurological cases applied for disability by the Forensic Medicine Institute between 2008 and 2012 were evaluated in terms of disability and disability rates, a comparison was made with the American Medical Association Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (AMA) published by the American Medical Association. RESULTS: The most common reason for admission was found to be Cerebrovascular Disease (SVH). When movement and speech disorders due to SVH were compared according to the relevant articles of the regulations; there was a moderate correlation between the rates of movement disorders, but no significant correlation was observed between the rates of speech disorders. CONCLUSIONS: Problems arise in experts learning and implementation of multiple regulations put into effect for different purposes, such as work and traffic accidents and occupational diseases. As a result of our study, it was concluded that the implementation of a single regulation would provide benefits in matters such as standard evaluation, expert training and supervision, and would prevent loss of rights for patients.
