Journal Title: Isra Medical Journal - Year 2018, Vol 10, Issue 5
Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To compare patients’ knowledge about discharge care of myocardial infarction between patients received modified care set up and routine care. STUDY DESIGN: A Quasi Experimental Study PLACE AND DURATION: At Karachi Institute of Heart Disease, from1stNovember 2014 to 31stJanuary 2015. METHODOLOGY: Pre and Post-test to a control group (Routine case group) and experimental approach (Modified case group) was used. Data related to demographic variables, family history, habits and patients’ knowledge about medication, diet and exercise were collected by using self-developed questionnaire. RESULTS: Among of total 400 participants, majority (64%) were male and 36% were female in both control and treatment groups. Most of the participants (98%) were married. Among both the groups majority of the subjects did not have any family history of heart disease (78%) in control and (68%) in intervention group. Intervention versus control group result disclosed for medication p-value <0.0001, diet p-value <0.0001 and activity p-value <0.0001. CONCLUSION: There is significant difference in the results related to knowledge of medicine, diet and exercise about discharge care of myocardial infarction among intervention versus control group after intervention.
