Comparison of River Bank Stabilization Methods using Computer Simulations (Case Study: Mashalak River)
Journal Title: Journal of River Engineering - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 4
Abstract
Protection and stabilization river bank operations along the river to prevent erosion, landslides coast, demolition of existing facilities and the riverside villages is very essential to the recovery of agricultural lands. In this paper, various methods of river bank stabilization such as Levee, Groin (Epi), Submerged Vane, biotechnical revetment, Riprap revetment and concrete revetment has been investigated. To achieve this end reach Mashalak River (approximate length of 2 kilometers) were considered because of urban and is important as the study area. Using software HEC-RAS, the model was simulated with the coastal protection structures and flow hydraulic conditions were compared with existing of river. Hydraulic parameters that were evaluated are mean flow velocity, shear stress and Chanel power. To investigate the best way of training among the existing methods, the parameter of the shear stress was chosen for comparison. Finally, the epi-levee option is introduced as the preferred method of hydraulically between the methods in the selected reach.

Dam Break Modeling for Large Earth and Rock-fill Dams
Dam break analysis plays a very important role in the risk assessment of dams. Large dams pose significantly higher risks to the people and property downstream of the dam as compared to smaller dams. So the flooding r...
Control of Local Scour around Bridge Pier Groups Using Geotextile Armored soil
In this paper, reduction of scour around group of two and three piers using geotextile layer has been carried out for the case of clear-water flow over uniform sediment. The results reveal that geotextile layer has a...
Evalution of Landsat ETM Sensor To Separate Riparian Forest from River (Case Study: Maroon River – Khuzestan)
In order to evaluate Landsat satellite imagery and remote sensing applications in separation of land from the river in riparian forest of Maroon Behbahan, a small window of multispectral images Landsat ETM+ was chosen...
Investigation of Existing Flood Protection Measures Upstream of Rasul Barrage
Floods in Pakistan have caused a huge loss of life and property. Use of HEC-RAS computer simulation model can help to improve flood protection measures to minimize flood damages. This study was conducted from downstre...
Numerical Investigation of Wing to Web Length Ratios Parameter of T-shaped Spur Dike in a 90 Degree Bend on Scour Pattern
There are a lot of methods and techniques to protect of the outer wall of river bends against erosion thatspur dike is an important element for protection of river banks. Spur dike causes variations in flow field, sed...
