Comparison of strategies of preventive and corrective maintenance of uninterruptible power supply

Abstract

Introduction. The comparison of the reliability of two variants of the fault-tolerant N+M redundant configurations for uninterruptible power supply with corrective and preventive maintenance is given in this paper. Formulation of the problem. Different variants of fault-tolerant redundant configurations and maintenance strategies provide equivalent mean time to failure indexes, but at the same time have different values of the probability of failure-free operation at given operation time value. Description of object under consideration. Fault-tolerant system consists of main and hot reserve modules and has two accumulator batteries. Reliability model for fault-tolerant system with N+M redundant configuration. Carrying out this research was made possible after the development of models of fault-tolerant systems as Kolmogorov - Chapman differential equation systems. Comparison of the reliability of uninterruptible power supply with different fault-tolerant configurations. There is shown quantitative difference between reliability indexes (operation time where probability of failure-free operation is not less than 0.99) of corrective and preventive maintenance. Conclusions. Reliability analysis of fault-tolerant systems shows that the strategy of corrective maintenance has higher values of operation time where probability of failure-free operation is not less than 0.99.
