Computer-Aided Design of Multi-Cavity Die-Casting Dies from Part Product Model

Abstract
In present work novel systems for computer-aided design of multi-cavity die casting dies have been presented. The presented systems address major issues encountered at different stages of the die-design. The databases of die-casting machines, die-casting materials, and standard die-bases are used in the design process of proposed system and apply die design knowledge. Architecture of the proposed system was presented and its various modules were discussed in detail. With instantiation of a die-cast part CAD model and some other information taken interactively from the user, the system generates CAD model of the cavity layout for a multi-cavity die-casting die. The architecture of the developed system was presented and its modules were discussed in detail. The capabilities of the developed system are demonstrated with the help of industrial case studies. The results obtained from the system have been validated both by taking opinion of the die-casting experts and conducting process simulation. The CAD model of the multi-cavity die-casting die is generated by the system in an automated manner. The CAD model thus generated is subsequently used for creating core and cavity blocks of the die. The system, named Multi Cavity Die Designer integrates above mentioned three systems and handles major activities of the multi-cavity die-casting design in a computer-aided environment.
